SHOWER TRAINING

PA Shower Training Duties:

Before CNA turns on the shower – remind CNA to take shower chair bucket out! 
1) Wash Don’s Hair
            - Put the washcloth over his eyes, (hold at the brow line)
            - After CNA gets hair wet, put shampoo all over head
     Wash hair with VIGOR!
            - Continue washing until time to rinse
            - Help CNA get soap out of hair 
            - Rinse washcloth after Don’s hair is rinsed
2) Wash Don’s eyes
3) Wash Don’s face
            - Get washcloth wet
            - Grab the blob of soap on one side of washcloth
            - Wash Don’s face with soap, if you get a lot of soap and then  dab the soap around his face before you start washing 
                        - Make sure you wash his ears
                        - Make sure you get both sides of his nose to get cream off
            - Rinse washcloth and rinse face with cloth (2X)
            - Throw washcloth in corner
4) Wash Don’s back
            - Wait for CNA to lean Don forward
            - Grab loofa (make sure string is facing you)
            - Wash Don’s back (scrub firmly, but not too firmly)
            - Put loofa away
5) Towels!
            - Put brown towel on little Bertha
            - Put brown towel behind Don’s back – 
                      more towards you, the throw excess on top of his head
            - Put green towels on floor so you and CNA can dry floor
6) Dry Don
            - Dry Don’s Hair with the towel
            - Dry Don’s face and neck
            - Make sure he is EXTRA dry so you can shave him!
7) Turn Don!
            - Turn with help of CNA so Don is facing the sink
            - Wipe out Don’s mouth
                        - Hotdog both sides           
                        - Hamburger (2X)
                        
8) Clean Nose
            - Sucky machine Don’s Nose – make sure to get the ball of his nose – 
                     plug the opposite side you are sucking.
                        - Clean sucky machine (carefully)
            - Grab 2 Q-tips and get one side of each wet
            - Q-tip Don’s nose
            - Tissue Don’s nose

9) Shave Don
            - Shave his cheeks, chin, and neck until he is smooth as a baby’s bottom
                        - Pull head to side, life skin
            - Use trimmer to shave mustache            
                        - Under nose (pull up nose like piggy)
                        - Above lips (push mustache and lips down so they’re flat)
                        - Make sure to get Don’s HAIRY MOLE! 
                                Don’t do this on bearded Don! 
            - Empty razor by blowing hairs into trash can and put away

                        - Completely temove top, bang against each other
10) Ears!
            - Q-tip Don’s ears (don't get wet), outside and inside. (2 Q-tips – 1 each ear)           
                        - Make sure to get the ridges on the outside!
11) Put basket away only after shirt is on Don, and do other duties:
            - Bring dirty laundry to basket, hang wet stuff on the side
            - Fix bed sheets and chux, turn off bed
            - Bring Bertha to living room and plug her in
            - Empty suction machine and fill water glass
            - Empty trash
12) Fold 5 double paper towels
13)  Replace collar and inner canullar help CNA with brace. 
                 The CNA will guide you through this complicated process 
14) Help brush Don’s Teeth
            - Hand CNA wet toothbrush (should not be able to see toothpaste)
            - When she is done brushing teeth put spit cup in Don’s lap
            - Feed Don water and wipe Don’s mouth (2X)
                        - Make sure you only use 1 side of the paper towel
                        - One corner, than the other
            - Hand CNA paper towel- dry side
            - Empty the cup into the spit bowl to wash it out. No need to waste water. 
15) Put numbing gel on last Q-tip and give to CNA
16) After shower when you return Little Bertha back on the rear of the wheelchair check the lithium lights for charge status. Tell Don the charge status. Always charge if one side is dead AND  the other lithium is also less than full.
